Virginia’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) allows eligible taxpayers to redirect a portion of their state tax liability to organizations like Youth Life Foundation — while receiving a 65% Virginia state tax credit.
Instead of sending those dollars to the state, you can invest them directly in literacy, tutoring, and long-term support for under-resourced students right here in Richmond.
What is the Neighborhood Assistance Program?
Please note: all gifts must be pre-authorized. Please contact Heather Goodlett or Andrew Schwartz before proceeding.
How it Works…
Virginia’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) is a state tax credit program that encourages charitable giving to nonprofits serving communities in need.
When an individual or business makes a qualifying gift to Youth Life through the NAP program ($500 minimum for individuals; $616 for businesses):
You may receive a 65% Virginia state tax credit
You may still qualify for a federal charitable deduction
Your gift directly supports students and families in right here in Richmond.
For many Virginia donors, this is one of the most impactful ways to give!
Reserve Your NAP Credits
NAP tax credits must be approved before your donation is made. Contact Youth Life to reserve your credits and confirm availability.
Make Your Gift
Once your credits are reserved, you can complete your qualifying gift to Youth Life Foundation (minimum $500 for individuals; $616 for businesses). Gifts may be made as a one-time donation or fulfilled over the course of the year.
Receive Your Tax Credit
Youth Life will provide documentation allowing you to claim your 65% Virginia state tax credit when filing your state taxes.
Here is an example…
If you donate $3,500 to Youth Life through the NAP program, either through a one time donation or as a monthly, sustaining partner:
• You may receive a $2,275 Virginia state tax credit (65%)
You may still qualify for a federal charitable deduction, typically on the portion of your gift not covered by the state tax credit
• In many cases, donors find that a large portion of their gift is offset by tax benefits.
Your exact tax benefit will depend on your individual tax situation, so please consult your tax advisor.
