Our Programs and Centers

We offer year round programs at our Learning Centers, located throughout the north and south sides of Richmond.

  • Northside Learning Center: Elementary

In the summer of 2023, our Delmont and Highland Park Learning Centers combined to form one larger Northside Learning Center! At this center, we serve students from Richmond Public Schools Barack Obama Elementary and Overby-Sheppard Elementary, as well as Henrico County Public School students from Glen Lea Elementary who also live in or near the Delmont Plaza Apartments, a Section 8 housing complex on Delmont St.

    Located at: 3080 Meadowbridge Rd

  • Southside Learning Center: Elementary

Our Southwood (now Southside) Learning Center was established in 2017 to serve the Spanish-speaking community in Richmond’s south side. Our Southside Learning Center is currently closed for the Fall 2023 semester while we hire and train new staff and move into our new space at Belmont United Methodist Church.

Updates about our Southside location will be announced in our monthly newsletter.

  • Remix Mentoring

Our Remix program began unofficially as “Youth Life at Nite” in 2009 as a program for older students who graduated from our elementary centers. Now, instead of providing daily after-school programming that just competes with other middle and high school extracurriculars, our Remix programming provides one-on-one mentors for students. Mentors meet with Remix students between 6-8 hours a month to build relationship, have conversation, and help them meet their life goals. We hope to set students up to successfully navigate the next step of life after school. Whether they aim to pursue college or a career, we walk beside them to encourage and provide support along the way.

After-School Programming

After-school programming is the crux of what we do at Youth Life. Students are either picked up from school by Youth Life staff or dropped off by their school buses for 2-3 hours of safe, structured care. At our Learning Centers, students receive a healthy snack, 30 minutes of recess, daily Bible lessons, individualized academic help, and character building lessons.

Students with good behavior and attendance also get to attend weekly “Fun Friday” field trips to various locations around RVA.

Summer Programming

To help prevent the “summer academic slide,” and to continue to build upon relationships that were started during the school year, Youth Life offers a variety of summer activities and tutoring for students during June and July. You can learn more about what’s going on during the summer months by subscribing to our monthly newsletter.

Special Events

Youth Life hosts several special events throughout the year, each offering a unique way to celebrate our students (and celebrate with our students). From Christmas parties to recitals, we want to create more spaces for our students to shine.
