Our Location
Our first life center is in the Glen Lea Community, an at-risk and under-performing educational area in eastern Henrico County. We have chosen the Glen Lea Community as our first Learning Center site due to the community connections and great need. Our Executive Director, Heather Brown, is a former Title One Reading Teacher at Glen Lea Elementary School. Along with the crucial school support, we have the support of various local churches and universities.

More about Glen Lea
Despite tremendous progress in 2002, Glen Lea Elementary School trails most Henrico County Elementary Schools in SOL scores. Specifically that year, out of forty elementary schools, Glen Lea tied for second to last place in English, tied for third to last place in Math, tied for last place in Social Science, and placed last in Science. Sixty-three percent of students attending Glen Lea also qualify for free or reduced lunch. The staff of Glen Lea Elementary School is highly supportive and is anticipating a positive partnering with us as we work together to change the community.

Future Locations
The Youth Life Foundation of Richmond has vision of multiple Learning Centers throughout the city of Richmond. We will come alongside organizations already in existence to help them incorporate our unique educational piece. We will also develop and replicate other Youth Life Learning Centers in other areas of need around Richmond, such as the city, the south side, and other east end communities.

"There is so little available to these children after school. Glen Lea is not a city school. Many of the resources available to Richmond city schools do not exist here. However, this community faces many of the same challenges."
