Accountability

Program Design
We will employ certified teachers and committed volunteers from a cross section of society to mentor and tutor our children. A maximum of 15:1 student-to-certified teacher ratio along with a 1:1 student-to-adult volunteer ratio will be maintained. Additionally, we believe in involving the parents and teachers so that we maximize our support to teh children.

Individualized Education Plans
Individualized Education Plans are written for each student. These plans will capture each child's strengths and provide a prescriptive plan to address each weakness. These are composed after teachers have talked to the child’s parents and teachers, looked at their records and over the tests that they administer. Lessons are carried out by the volunteers who can provide intense one-on-one teaching and listening moments.

Each year our teachers will take the new report cards, SOL scores, school teacher feedback, parent feedback, and our outcome-based testing to evaluate the student’s progress. The Individualized Education Plans will be revised accordingly so students can continue to advance.

Economic Training
We also have an economic program in place at the Learning Center. Our teacher has attended an economics workshop with the Powell Endowment. We have economics lessons to teach the basic terms students are required to know in school. However, we have also implemented a mini-economy program. Our students fill out applications and ask for references to get hired for a job to help the Learning Center run efficiently. Children earn a salary weekly for doing their jobs, pay rent for their space and supplies, as well as choose to put their money in savings or buy something from our store. They are also given bonus bucks for outstanding behavior and fined for poor behavior. It is our hope to teach our students a positive model of handling finances.
