Financial Literacy
Throughout the entire year, we encourage the children’s achievements and good behavior with a mini-economy system at our Learning Center. Each child has a weekly job at the center to help everything run efficiently. The children earn Learning Center Dollars for completing their jobs and for exemplifying good behavior, and they must pay dollars when they do not follow the rules or obey their teachers and mentors. At the end of the week, the children can use their dollars to purchase items in our store or they can save it for something that costs more than they currently have earned.
Recently, we implemented the ECONOMIS program which takes this mini-economy to the next level with an online portal similar to online banking where the children will manage their own bank accounts with Learning Center dollars and utilize a personal ATM card to check their balance and make purchases in our store.
Finally, during the summer months, we utilize an economics curriculum to encourage financial literacy among the children.
